I am not just a UFL writer. I also write about the NFL, and I look forward to giving you my opinions on the Indianapolis Colts (my favorite team), along with other NFL stories and opinions on UFL players who made NFL rosters.

Without further ado, here are my Week Two power rankings.

1: San Francisco 49ers

Kyle Shanahan had the right idea getting his team to Australia early for the game. They looked relaxed and had a very solid game plan against the Rams. San Francisco looked really solid on both sides of the ball against a team that was considered an NFC Championship contender. Mike Evans looked sharp coming back from injury, while Kaelon Black also looked like a great complement to McCaffrey. With Purdy and McCaffrey, the 49ers should be just fine, barring injuries.

2: Seattle Seahawks

Losing Sam Darnold hurts, but Drew Lock did his job and still ran the offense efficiently. Their defense looked just as good as it did last year. The comeback victory was a very impressive one. Three second-half turnovers by the Patriots gave the Seahawks the win at home in the Super Bowl rematch. It remains to be seen how long Darnold will be out, but this was an outstanding effort by the former Super Bowl champions.

3: Buffalo Bills

The Bills looked really solid on the road against what is considered one of the most vaunted defenses in the NFL. Josh Allen was clutch, and the Bills’ defense came up big when it needed to. Buffalo needed its offense to remain sharp, and it delivered. Josh Allen scored twice through the air and once on the ground, while DJ Moore and Dalton Kincaid also delivered.

4: Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens’ new regime couldn’t have been happier with their Week One dismantling of the Indianapolis Colts. Lamar Jackson was more than sharp, throwing for over 300 yards and scoring twice through the air and once on the ground. The new-look Jesse Minter defense also looked incredibly sharp, causing havoc for Daniel Jones and company.

5: Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars opened the season against the lowly Browns and absolutely dominated from start to finish on both offense and defense. Trevor Lawrence threw four touchdown passes and looked particularly sharp. The Jaguars’ defense had five sacks, an interception, and a fumble recovery. Jacksonville only averaged 3.9 yards per carry, but Lawrence led the way. The Jaguars’ new-look running back committee does need to be monitored, though, as Lawrence can’t do it all.

6: Chicago Bears

The Bears opened with their highest-scoring game since 1980 against Carolina, putting up 59 points. Caleb Williams looked extremely sharp, as did the double-headed running attack of De’Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai. The Bears’ defense made plays when they needed to, but giving up 37 points to Carolina is slightly concerning and needs to be monitored. Also, shoutout to the Scorigami (RIP)!

7: Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles and Commanders game was an interesting one. Washington usually plays Philadelphia tough, and that was apparent in this game. Jalen Hurts played solidly with three passing touchdowns, two of which went to Dallas Goedert, who continued his hot streak from last season.

The rest of the receiving corps didn’t live up to expectations, with first-round pick Makai Lemon finishing with negative five receiving yards. The offensive line play was shaky as well, with Saquon Barkley finishing with only 83 rushing yards.

Defensively, the Eagles were also a little shaky, and Cooper DeJean had the worst outing of his career. Philadelphia still got the win, though, and in my eyes, they are a top-ten team in the NFL.

8: New England Patriots

The Patriots were winning at halftime in Seattle, and while they struggled offensively, their defense looked sharp against backup Drew Lock. However, Seattle made quite a few adjustments, and the second half really flipped the switch.

Drake Maye threw three ugly interceptions, and the running game really struggled. On top of all of that, A.J. Brown got injured and will be out for the next few weeks. The Patriots face an important home game against the Steelers next week.

9: Kansas City Chiefs

At one point, Patrick Mahomes was just 3-of-11 passing, but the offense eventually turned things around. Kenneth Walker made an immediate difference in their running game, something we haven’t seen from Kansas City in years, finishing with 173 total yards and two touchdowns.

The new faces on defense also shined in Steve Spagnuolo’s blitz-heavy system, and the Chiefs easily rolled over the Broncos at home. Mahomes has some cleaning up to do on his end, but if Kenneth Walker can perform like that consistently, the Chiefs may be a different beast this season.

Next up: the Colts, who just gave up 500 yards to Baltimore.

10: Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals faced a tough home test against a gritty Buccaneers team that made things interesting. Joe Burrow had a very up-and-down contest, while Ja’Marr Chase only had two catches for 12 yards. Their running game also averaged just 3.9 yards per carry.

However, their defense came up big, which is something that hasn’t happened in a long time. The Bengals recovered four fumbles and stood up when they needed to.

11: New York Giants

This feels pretty insane with the Giants at No. 11, but here we are. Their offense looked sharp under their new coaching regime, and Isaiah Likely looked amazing in his Giants debut. Dart and Skattebo looked sharp coming back from injury as well.

The Giants’ defense held the vaunted Cowboys offense in check for most of the night. This was an impressive debut, and if this is how the Giants look all season, watch out.

12: Houston Texans

Yes, the Texans lost, but they were playing the juggernaut Bills and gave them one of their toughest tests. The defense was surprisingly shaky, but C.J. Stroud didn’t let the previous divisional game ruin his momentum. He kept pace with Josh Allen, while David Montgomery rushed for two touchdowns and caught another in his Texans debut.

Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter will definitely make their mark this season, and I have no doubt the Texans’ defense will be sharp. They do face a tough test against the Bengals next week, but the Bucs’ defense held up its end against Cincinnati. It will be one of the more intriguing Week Two games.

13: Los Angeles Rams

The Rams gambled with late travel plans to Australia, and they absolutely looked sluggish against the 49ers. Matthew Stafford didn’t look like the reigning NFL MVP and struggled against a healthy 49ers defense.

Myles Garrett also didn’t generate any pressure against Trent Williams and company. It also hurts that Garrett will be on the shelf after undergoing knee surgery. Aaron Donald returns from retirement and should be active next week against the Giants.

Time will tell if it was simply Week One rust or travel lag, or if the Rams should actually be concerned. But in my eyes, they are still a top team in the NFC.

14: Detroit Lions

The Lions should be ranked higher. They had a 21-0 lead in the third quarter following a strong offensive and defensive showing. But the Lions’ defense folded and gave up a 24-3 scoring run to the Saints.

New Orleans had a chance to win on a last-minute 62-yard field goal in regulation, but it missed. Detroit scored first in overtime, and the Saints matched that touchdown before going for two and missing.

Jahmyr Gibbs ran all over the Saints’ defense, and Jared Goff was efficient, completing 26 of 39 passes for two touchdowns. But whenever a team has a 21-0 lead and gives up 24 points from the third quarter on, it’s never a good sign. The Lions won, but it feels like this should have been a much more comfortable victory.

15: Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings were down by 12 halfway through the third quarter and looked lost. Kyler Murray was knocked out with a concussion on their third offensive possession. Carson Wentz, well, looked like Carson Wentz. He is rather immobile and struggled against pressure, as the Packers sacked him three times and pressured him plenty more.

Their running game was also rather inefficient. But the Packers squandered their 12-point lead. They folded against Brian Flores’ exotic blitzes, and the Vikings ran away with the game in the fourth quarter with a miraculous comeback.

Justin Jefferson matched his two touchdowns from all of last season this week with two receiving touchdowns on 92 receiving yards. They face a tough assignment against the Bears in Week Two, but if the defense continues to play like it did late in this game, this will be a very interesting matchup in the Windy City.

16: Green Bay Packers

Green Bay had a very strong chance of winning this game, but coaching did them in. With a 22-17 lead in the fourth quarter, they kicked a field goal, which was good. However, because of a Vikings offside penalty, it became 4th-and-1 on the Minnesota 17.

They went for it and didn’t get it. Had they taken the field goal, they would have had an eight-point lead on the road. Instead, the Vikings went on a 29-point scoring run.

After the failed 4th-and-1, the Vikings got the ball, but a bunch of Packers defensive penalties kept the drive alive, allowing Minnesota to score the crucial touchdown and take a three-point lead.

Then Green Bay fell apart. They lost three yards on a run, then Love was sacked on back-to-back plays and fumbled the ball on their own one-yard line, which was recovered by the Vikings. On the next possession, Jordan Love threw an ugly interception that sealed the deal.

The Packers’ last five games dating back to last season have been ugly showings. Green Bay has to find a way to finish games.

17: Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers won an ugly Week One game against the Falcons. Their defense always looks great, but Aaron Rodgers looked like a 41-year-old quarterback. They also faced a backup quarterback, and had Atlanta converted its field goals, this game would have been far more interesting.

The Steelers will have to lean on their defense and a game-manager at quarterback. Even with a new head coach, this feels like last season all over again. A shaky offense with an elite defense will only get them so far.

18: Denver Broncos

Denver looked lost in Kansas City as Bo Nix succumbed to a lot of pressure from the Chiefs’ defense. Let’s not forget, though, that Denver’s defense played very well despite Kenneth Walker’s massive performance.

They held Mahomes to 184 yards and a 55% completion percentage. But because of the offense’s lack of production, the defense was on the field a ton.

The Broncos’ new offensive coordinator, Davis Webb, has a lot of growing to do with his play-calling, including running the ball more with their three running backs. Up next is a big test against the Jaguars.

19: Carolina Panthers

The Panthers could’ve won 12 other games this week with their scoring output. If you score 37 points, you will most likely win your game. Instead, their defense folded and gave up 59 points.

The Panthers didn’t lack effort, though. Bryce Young looked great with three passing touchdowns, a rushing touchdown, and 360 passing yards. His connection with Coker looked extremely sharp.

But the Panthers couldn’t keep up with Chicago in the second half. In a weak NFC South, the Panthers look capable of being competitive, and their offense certainly looks the part.

20: Arizona Cardinals

This was the most shocking game of the week. The Cardinals absolutely dominated the heavily favored Chargers.

Jacoby Brissett did his part as a game manager, throwing one touchdown and no turnovers. The Cardinals’ running game was solid, but not great, while Jereymiah Love scored his first NFL touchdown.

Trey McBride was awesome as well, catching nine passes for 95 yards and a touchdown. The Cardinals’ defense and special teams came up with three turnovers, including two fumble recoveries and an interception, in the surprise win.

The Cardinals are clearly in a rebuild, but this was an impressive win.

21: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Bucs got in their own way in the loss to Cincinnati. Losing four fumbles as an offense is simply abysmal, and it’s virtually impossible to win when you turn the ball over four times.

Yet they still made this game interesting. Josiah Trotter was impressive, and the Bucs’ defense looked the part and held a solid Bengals offense in check. Had their offense not turned the ball over, this could have been a completely different story.

Baker Mayfield did okay, but they have some work to do before next week.

22: New Orleans Saints

The Saints were down 21-0 in the third quarter and made a miraculous 24-3 run to tie the game in the third and fourth quarters. Tyler Shough looked good aside from two interceptions, Chris Olave was great, and Etienne looked good, even though the game script certainly had to change after falling behind by three possessions.

Their defense looked suspect for most of the day, but the Lions are loaded. Daniel Carlson missed a 62-yard field goal at the end of regulation that would have won it. Had they kept Tanner Brown, they may have just won the game.

Instead, the game went to overtime. The Lions scored first, and the Saints matched them. Kellen Moore went for two, but they didn’t get it. The miraculous comeback fell just short.

If Tyler Shough makes a Year Two jump, it will certainly help this Saints squad, but their defense has to make adjustments.

23: Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons stayed in it against the Steelers but ultimately succumbed to their own mistakes. Backup Cooper Rush did all he could, but it wasn’t enough.

Nick Folk missed two crucial field goals that would have changed the tide of the game. Bijan Robinson looked great as always, and the Falcons’ defense looked sharp against the 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers.

Whoever is at quarterback next week, whether it’s Tua or Penix, needs to do more for this squad.

24: Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys’ defense looked exactly the same despite all the changes they made this offseason. They were torn apart left and right against the new-look Giants.

Even more surprisingly, Dak and company struggled against Big Blue. Week One overreactions certainly aren’t an indication of how the rest of the season will go, but this is not the way Dallas wanted to start the season.

New York had its way all game. Next week against the Commanders will be a big test to see if Dallas responds or falters under the pressure.

25: Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers entered as a huge favorite against the rebuilding Cardinals. Instead, Arizona dominated them from start to finish, and Los Angeles never even had the lead.

New offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel came in with high expectations, but the offense never really seemed in sync. Their running attack had only 81 yards and averaged 3.9 yards per carry, while Herbert threw for 209 yards on 7.7 yards per attempt. Two turnovers also killed the Chargers along with a ton of turnover on downs.

Ladd McConkey was also injured during the game. Los Angeles has a lot of work to do before next week’s game against the Raiders.

26: New York Jets

The Jets opened against the lowly Tennessee Titans and absolutely dominated them from start to finish. Why aren’t they higher? Because they’re the New York Jets, of course.

Beating the Titans isn’t exactly a major way to gain ground in the power rankings. Breece Hall rushed for 100 yards, Geno Smith didn’t turn the ball over, and Garrett Wilson made the most of his opportunities.

The defense really limited Cam Ward and company, as the Titans didn’t score until garbage time. Next week’s game against the Packers will be far more telling of where the Jets actually stand.

27: Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders also had a relatively easy matchup against the rebuilding Miami Dolphins and won comfortably. Ashton Jeanty rushed for 100 yards, caught two touchdowns, and the Raiders’ defense recorded an interception and fumble recovery against Miami.

Kirk Cousins is a good bridge quarterback, and he threw three touchdowns to two interceptions. It’s also worth noting that Brock Bowers was out.

However, the Raiders are clearly rebuilding, so we’ll see when Mendoza gets his shot.

28: Washington Commanders

The Commanders had a tough road test against Philadelphia, and it showed. Jayden Daniels completed 52% of his passes, and Washington had only 132 rushing yards.

The Commanders’ defense was improved from last year, but it just wasn’t enough to get the job done. Drew Stevens also missed a crucial field goal that could have put Washington over the top.

The Commanders’ offense needs to show more consistency, and with defensive efforts like this, they have a chance to move up from here.

29: Indianapolis Colts

This one pains me to write. Shane Steichen and Chris Ballard are on the hot seat once again.

There was good stuff coming out of camp about Daniel Jones looking sharp following his torn Achilles. After a solid first drive, however, the Colts fell flat, big time.

The defense looked absolutely putrid and gave up 504 yards to Baltimore. Daniel Jones looked rusty and didn’t show much to be optimistic about.

The only positive was Jonathan Taylor, and he can’t do it all for Indianapolis.

30: Miami Dolphins

Miami is in a clear rebuild, with most of their cap space going to players who aren’t even on the roster. While they did put up a decent effort, they lost easily to the Raiders.

Buckle up for a rough season in Miami.

31: Tennessee Titans

There were a lot of new expectations this season with a new head coach and new coordinators. Instead, Coach Robert Saleh’s old squad came into Tennessee and squashed them.

Cam Ward looks raw for a No. 1 overall pick, and the defense came out flat against Geno Smith and the Jets.

This is not the way you want to start the season with a new coaching regime.

32: Cleveland Browns

The Browns started the season with a blowout loss to the Jaguars. Deshaun Watson looked the part of a disappointment, throwing a terrible interception on the first drive after making a horrible read.

This is a rebuilding year, again, and Browns fans are wondering when Sanders will get his shot again before the 2027 draft.
