Jeramie Richardson
By RJ “The Bullish Brahma” Reid
There’s an adage that goes “behind every great man there’s a great woman.” In the world of the San Antonio Gunslingers, that saying would go something like “behind the great sheriff, there are great deputies.” While the Posse’s Sheriff, Head Coach Tom Menas, is in the spotlight, appearing on his weekly show “Branded” and being interviewed on podcast shows such as “The Smokin’ Gunz Podcast” and appearing on local TV, behind the scenes, operating in relative obscurity, are his deputies, the assistant coaches. In this series, I reveal the men behind the curtain, the true firepower that operates this organization. Let’s begin our journey with the first deputy.
Jeramie Richardson, the Defensive Line Coach for the San Antonio Gunslingers, plays a crucial role in shaping the team’s performance on the field. As part of the Indoor Football League (IFL), the Gunslingers rely on Coach Richardson’s expertise to develop effective defensive strategies and enhance player skills.
Coach Richardson’s journey from player to coach is noteworthy. He played for the Albany Empire in 2019, and was a key contributor to their success. After winning a second championship with Albany, he transitioned to coaching. Under the guidance of Head Coach Tom Menas, Coach Richardson now focuses on training linebackers and fullbacks for the Gunslingers.
The Gunslingers have a passionate fan base and will soon have a strong presence in the IFL. The excitement surrounding the team is palpable. A large reason for the excitement is the quality of coaches on the team. Coach Richardson’s dedication to the team’s success reflects his commitment to the sport and the development of young athletes. His role extends beyond the Xs and Os, as he instills discipline, teamwork, and determination in his players.
As the Defensive Line Coach, Coach Richardson collaborates with the defensive unit, emphasizing techniques, game plans, and effective communication. His experience as a player adds valuable insights to his coaching approach. Whether it’s analyzing opponents’ offenses, refining pass-rush techniques, or motivating players during intense games, Coach Richardson plays a pivotal role in the Gunslingers’ pursuit of victory.
In the heart of San Antonio, Coach Richardson’s impact extends beyond the football field. A native of San Antonio, his long and deep connection to the Alamo City is evident. His passion for the city and for the people, ignites a burning passion that his players and fans will be overcome by. A family man and a man of deep faith, Coach Richardson’s leadership inspires players to give their best, both on and off the turf. As the Gunslingers begin their journey in the IFL, Coach Jeramie Richardson remains a key figure, shaping the team’s future and leaving an indelible mark on San Antonio’s football legacy.
Raised in northern Minnesota, I grew up a Minnesota sports fan, a fandom that has broken my heart over and over again. After retiring from the Navy, I settled in San Antonio, TX where I met my precious wife, Erin. Looking for a local team to call my own that doesn’t conflict with my 40+ year love of Minnesota teams, I was elated that the Brahmas and Gunslingers came to the Alamo City. Embracing both teams with my whole heart, I want to spread that passion for both teams to as many people as possible.
