The DC Defenders “A Father and Son fan Perspective”
By Terry and Talon Hart
Saying this first game was anything less than disappointing would be an understatement. As a fan, I was definitely hoping the Defenders would come out with fire and play a great game. What we saw was a team that looked like they were completely unprepared to play a real game.
In my observation, the Defenders came out flat and then never seemed to be able to recover. The Brahmas on the other hand, played hard and played to win. The Defender’s team effort was undisciplined and without passion in just every aspect except for kicker Matthew McCrane. Even after playing so poorly, the Defenders still had opportunities to score and win, but just didn’t take advantage of them.
The glaring black eye has to be the actions of offensive tackle Jean Delance and this needs to be addressed properly. As a high school football coach, I feel at the very least he deserves to be suspended 2 weeks for conduct detrimental to the team. He demonstrated by his actions that he is selfish and undisciplined. Spitting on another person, throwing a temper tantrum on the sideline, then slamming his helmet to the ground all after his actions cost the Defenders two touchdowns is just mind blowing.
Moving on, as a fan, I can’t wait to see the Defenders play this Sunday at Audi Field. A good dose of home cooking is definitely what a doctor would order.
Talon and I will be there yelling and giving the team all the support we can from our seats. In the meantime, I’m sure the entire Defenders coaching staff will be constantly reviewing film and making the necessary adjustments to right the ship.
Let’s Go DC!
